Equine Massage...
What is it?

Equine Massage is an intricate part of the holistic approach to balanced equine health.

Massage is valuable not only in cases of injury and disease, but also for promoting the general health
and preventing it from being lowered under ordinary conditions of life. For instance, it is particularly
useful in the relief of muscular fatigue, the feeling of which arises from the presence, in the overworked
muscles, of certain waste products of muscular contraction, which more or less paralyze the muscles for
the time being. It may therefore be concluded that the removal of the waste products causes rapid
restoration of muscular vigor that follow well-applied massage in these cases.

“The evident pleasure which stroking gives to animals and the delight tired horses, dogs and cats take
in rolling, are convincing proofs of the health-giving effect of massage.”

Surprisingly, the above quote does not come from modern Holistic ideas on the value of massage. These
words were penned more than 120 years ago in M. Horace Hayes original writings "Veterinary Notes
for Horse Owners."

With the advancements in medical science and influx of surgical techniques and so-called miracle drugs,
the veterinarian-editors of Hayes’ book decided that things like massage were no longer needed;
however, they failed to realize that Veterinarians today would discover the incredible benefit massage
adds to remedies and treatments.

As a result, there has been a reappearance of Hayes’ original discussion concerning massage in recent
reprints. In conclusion, Equine Massage is and intricate part of the Holistic approach to balanced
Equine health.

Massage does not replace Veterinary care but works harmoniously with it.
